I might be the only one who missed this, but apparently last week was the great Robert Wyatt‘s 69th birthday. Soft Machine began to make music with Wyatt as their drummed in 1966 (Wyatt was 21), which means he has been making outside-the-box unclassifiable rock music for over four decades. My friend Timmy played “Shipbuilding” for me about 12 years ago and I have been a fan of Wyatt’s ever since. If you do not know his work, please give these clips a listen.
Thank you, Robert Wyatt for being an uncompromising, singular talent in our world and for creating engaging, interesting, solidly original music. And Happy Belated Birthday! Many Happy Returns!!
